Too often we hear people say, “I’m too old” in reference to just about anything involving physical activity. Especially when it comes to starting that activity without having any prior experience. That’s why people like Mike Snyder are so inspirational. At 56 years old, Mike began training at Paramount Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Downingtown PA.

This past weekend Mike entered the NAGA Philadelphia Grappling Championships to test his grappling skills. NAGA divides the competitors by age, rank, and weight. But there were no other competitors in their 50’s, so Mike was paired up with a 43 year old. Despite the 13 year age difference, Mike won his match 5-0.

With all of the reasons people come up with to avoid trying something, it’s refreshing to meet someone like Mike- Someone who isn’t afraid to embrace a challenge. His positive attitude is contagious, and he’s an excellent role model for people of all ages who are thinking about trying something new. Don’t be afraid, just go for it!
